Some eternal-deviant hybrids just want to watch the galaxy burn.<\/p>\n

And in Marvel\u2019s latest \u2013 and arguably most ambitious flick in the franchise to date \u2013 that villain is a gigantic and menacing force whose name alone elicits stares of dread and can pucker the asshole of even the toughest superhero.<\/p>\n

\u201cTell me his name again,\u201d a poker-faced Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) insists.<\/p>\n

His name\u2026 is Thanos.<\/p>\n

(Gasp. Pucker.)<\/p>\n

You\u2019ve probably already seen this dude or heard his name bandied about, in \u201cAvengers,\u201d \u201cAvengers: Age of Ultron<\/a>\u201d or \u201cGuardians of the Galaxy<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

And as we quickly learn in the new \u201cAvengers: Infinity War,\u201d Thanos (Josh Brolin) is pretty much a big, purple, intergalactic bully: \u201cHe\u2019s a plague!\u201d Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) emphatically states. \u201cHe invades planets; he takes what he wants!\u201d<\/p>\n

And what he wants are the half a dozen elemental crystals known to Marvel fans as Infinity Stones. Each representing an aspect of existence, these stones are pretty and colorful \u2013 and individually they pack a wallop like a donkey kick, so imagine the power all of them collectively would yield.<\/p>\n

In the wrong hands, however, that power could mean disaster; anyone remember Ronin (Lee Pace) from \u201cGOTG\u201d?<\/p>\n

And if there is any monster into whose hands these stones should never fall, it\u2019s Thanos: \u201cHe could destroy life on a scale hitherto undreamt of.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yeah, that.<\/p>\n

Doesn\u2019t stop this brute from Fe-Fi-Fo-Fum-ing his way across the stars, looking to gather the stones and their omnipotent potential.<\/p>\n

It\u2019ll take one expansive team of superheroes to challenge this universal baddie and help save the world, the galaxy, the universe.<\/p>\n

Who you gonna call? Wait, that\u2019s wrong. You know what I mean.<\/p>\n

Just about every character Marvel has put onscreen over the last 10 years makes an appearance (or gets a mention), and it\u2019s possibly the greatest assembly of costumed characters in one of the most well thought-out and deftly handled stories \u2013 ever.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019ve seen all the stand-alone flicks, you\u2019ll know exactly what\u2019s going on \u2013 and you\u2019ll probably be a little giddy over some of your favorites sharing screen time with more of your favorites. Squee!<\/p>\n

If you haven\u2019t \u2013 and I\u2019m mostly stating this for my dad, who hasn\u2019t seen \u201cGOTG\u201d (I KNOW!) and has refused to do so because there\u2019s a talking raccoon (I\u2019m sorry, Rocket; he doesn\u2019t mean it) \u2013 but if you haven\u2019t<\/em> seen the distinct solo flicks there\u2019s still enough offered here for you to follow the story, but you\u2019ll be missing a lot<\/em> of what makes these movies so much fun: the connections some of these players have with one another and the resulting conflict or sentiment; the intricacies of the narrative, with plot points from some of the other films better fleshed out and more nuanced here; the subtle digs and inside jokes that intricately define this character or that.<\/p>\n

As you\u2019d expect, the personality quirks possessed by these heroes are on display once again: Tony\u2019s playboy arrogance; Captain America<\/a>\u2019s (Chris Evans) steadfast righteousness; Spider-Man<\/a>\u2019s (Tom Holland) youthful enthusiasm; Dr. Strange\u2019s (Benedict Cumberbatch) serenity; Rocket\u2019s (Bradley Cooper) maniacal obsessions \u2013 snicker; Peter Quill\u2019s (Chris Pratt, meow) over-confidence; Drax\u2019s (Dave Bautista) detachment from the figurative; and on, and on, and on.<\/p>\n

\u201cInfinity War\u201d brings together all the characters we love to do all the things for which we love them.<\/p>\n

Some of these characters get what they want; some of them don\u2019t. It\u2019s a balance.<\/p>\n

I\u2019m not going to even hint at who\u2019s on which side of that equation, because that would be taking away from what you<\/em> want \u2013 a full-on, kick-ass, enjoyable movie experience.<\/p>\n

And that\u2019s exactly what \u201cAvengers: Infinity War\u201d delivers.<\/p>\n
